The Mitsubishi Pajero has been an integral part of the huge 4×4, off-road scene for so many years, it’s almost become a part of the furniture; a very capable piece of furniture, of course, and one that has a large and loyal following.
Mitsubishi South Africa is adding a Pajero Sport with Shogun touches to their local offering, which is sure to appeal to fans of off-road driving as well as families who prioritise adventure and a variety of leisure activities.
The all-new Pajero Sport Shogun Limited Edition is based on the Aspire 4×4 derivative and this locally developed model will join the range just below the Exceed derivative.
“Since being introduced in 2020 the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has impressed media and South Africans with the way that it combines its legendary off-road acumen with its family-friendly attributes,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).
Featuring seven seats, the Pajero Sport is unique in the manner in which it combines real off-road ability with luxury on-road comfort for the whole family.
The Shogun name is well-known to South Africans as it has been utilised across a variety of special edition Mitsubishi models throughout the years to accentuate the outstanding qualities of these vehicles.
The Pajero Sport Shogun is differentiated by a variety of aesthetic enhancements as well as the fitment of additional equipment. Aspire models on which the Shogun are based are only available in Jet Black or White Diamond, with a two-tone roof and feature black roof rails, a black front grille and 18-inch alloy wheels. On Shogun models these are wrapped with Special All Terrain Tyres measuring 265/60R18.
“The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is fitted with a variety of additional equipment that adds to the aesthetic, protects the vehicle and enhances its capability, while adding a degree of exclusivity” adds Allison.
Shogun-specific equipment includes a black Shogun nudge bar, a snorkel, side window deflectors, fender flares and Shogun rock sliders.
Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II takes the guesswork out of off-road driving by ensuring that engine output, transmission settings and braking are optimised for superior traction across challenging surface conditions. Four selectable off-road modes include 2H, 4H, 4HLc (4WD High range with centre diff locked), and 4LLc (4WD Low range with centre diff locked).
The Pajero Sport boasts noteworthy off-road credentials including an approach angle of 30 degrees, a departure angle of 24.2 degrees and a 23.1-degree ramp-over angle that ensures it will not shy away from any obstacle.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport features impressive safety credentials based on the Mitsubishi RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction. This includes seven airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, active stability and traction control, ABS brakes, EBD and an emergency brake assist system.
Completing the safety offering are hill-start assist, trailer stability assist, auto levelling dusk-sensing LED headlights, front fog lamps, daytime running lights, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, rear park distance control and a rear-view camera for safer and easier parking.
Under the bonnet, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is powered by a 2.4-litre MIVEC four-cylinder inter-cooled turbodiesel engine that boasts 133kW and 430Nm which is coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The special edition Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Shogun is sold with an additional two-year drivetrain warranty, bolstering the warranty to five years/100 000km alongside the standard five-year/90 000km service plan and five-year roadside assistance. Service intervals are set at every 10,000 km.
